Kratom’s Extraction Process

Ever wonder what the process of turning a Kratom leaf to a powerful, health-benefiting, natural therapy is like?

Kratom can be consumed in a variety of ways. In fact, some like to chew on the leaves directly, while others like to make tea using the kratom leaves or in its powder form. The most common method of consumption, however, is through Kratom extracts.

At the World of Kratom, you have over 15 types of kratom powders to choose from.  With a wide range of options, you might get confused as to what each extract does and which one is best for you. In this short article, you will understand what the process of creating Kratom extracts is like. The 3 main extraction processes include tea-based extract, water-based extract, or resin form extract.

From Leaf to Extract

Kratom leaves can be extracted (compounds are activated by heat and eventually separated) in a variety of ways. However, all processes start the same way: with the kratom leaves first being harvested and dried. Once that is done, you are able to proceed to your desired choice of extraction.

1) Tea-Based Extract

Tea based extract is as simple as making tea. You first need to steep the leaves in hot water and you are done! Just like a regular tea, the longer you leave the leaves for, the stronger the flavor and effect of it. It is also an easy way to add flavor by adding lemon or honey. This method is an easy way to access kratom’s alkaloid, however, you must make sure that the water isn’t too hot so that the alkaloids in kratom don’t get broken down from the heat.  This method results in one of the easiest but least concentrated and less potent forms of extract. Tea based extract can be used for those that want a little kick of energy but want to avoid drinking energy drinks or coffee.

2) Water-based Extract

The water-based extract starts with gathering raw kratom leaves and dissolving it in a boiling pot of water and ethanol. Once boiled, the mixture should be mixed well and then left in a dark place for 1-2 weeks so that the leaves can take time to steep enough. Then the mixture should be separated from the ethanol in a strainer and placed back into the pot. You will proceed by boiling the mixture to the point that it becomes a powder. This method leaves you with an extract that is extremely potent. In fact, the powdered extract leaves you with a stronger concentration than the regular leaf. If you seek to preserve this concentration for longer, it is recommended to add some citric acid like lemon prior to boiling the mixture. One thing to note is that you must make sure that the mixture is at an acidity pH level of 4.

3) Resin Form Extract

Resin Form extract is one of the more labor-intensive methods and takes the form of a semi-solid consistency. It is created by mixing kratom powder with water very well and added either lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar to add some acidity. Then you should let it steep overnight and then froze to make it into a solid. The frozen mixture should then be added into a pot of boiling water and have more lemon or lime added. Once a quarter of the water is gone, you should cool and strain the mixture.  Once the water is saturated, the mixture should be placed in a pot and set in the oven to 150 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the water evaporates, it will leave a thick resin behind. Because of this semi-solid form, this method might be the best for making your kratom last longer.

There are various methods of extraction, however, one thing to remember is that each will result in its own concentration and potency and you should be mindful of the dosage you consume.

    Hello,
I use to buy from a company called Kratom Forest in Oregon but cant seem to find them. I bought a kratom that gave me energy and would get rid of my withdrawl symptoms from opioids. I want to say it was called super green but not sure. What is your best energetic kratom and what is your quickest shipping method?
    Thanks, Brandon from Minnesota

I have friends dealing with long term pain and rely on Kratom. I use cannabis but it no longer kills the pain I live with daily. I’m somewhat concerned that it might interact with prescription meds…any info on this? My doc has taken the only medicine away from me that killed the severe cramping and vomiting that consume my life…Soma. Do you think Kratom could be a substitute? I’m 69 with no interest in the euphoric…just need pain relief. Thank you
